Invention of Lying Signing Report (Jennifer Garner, Ricky Gervais) by Mike Sametz I have to tell you, there are a few select celebrities that I will try and get over and over again. One of them is Ms. Jennifer Garner. Now, I have never gotten her to sign anything, I have never met her, I just like her. I loved Alias… Well, most seasons of Alias, and even though she has only done the occasional film since then, there is something about her I just like. Today is the premiere of The Invention of Lying with Mr. Ricky Gervais. So, off I go with the able help of the infamous Ms. M’Lou Elkins!
2:33 p.m. – Okay, so… we got here a tad early. In fact, we are the first ones here. The early bird gets the worm I say… and in this case we should get a dozen worms. Lol… 2:46 p.m. – I brought tons of crap with me today. For Jennifer I brought my Alias full length poster, It’s a full one sheet, but looks so great. I also have a Rolling Stone from I think 2002 or so. Plus, I have been trying to get my Juno poster done, and brought that as well. I heard Jason Bateman might show up too, so getting both will be nice. 2:59 p.m. – I almost forgot, I brought two DVD’s of Extra’s for Ricky Gervais. Okay, well technically they are Erica’s DVD’s. She went out and bought them so I can get them signed (she’s in NY this week) which is something we try never to do because it’s like a jinx, but whatever. I never saw the show and just started watching it. It’s hilarious! I think once I get Erica’s signed she might lose one of the DVD inserts… magically it may disappear… strange how that happens. 3:15 p.m. – I’m telling M’Lou about the magic of Alias… I’m convincing her to Netflix it. 3:43 p.m. – We are still the only ones here. LOL… I was trying to be proactive! Well, I guess we know that next time we have more time to spare… 4:02 p.m. – M’Lou brought her Extract poster for Jason Bateman. I hope he shows up! 4:32 p.m. – We just got Baja Fresh. I love the Baja Fresh and worship their salsa. There is just something about salsa I love. What is it I ask? I don’t know... I have no idea… the only thing I can think of is that I like playing with my food, and chips with salsa is the next step up from that.
5:03 p.m. – It’s starting to fill up now… I actually really want to see this movie. I just discovered I like Ricky Gervais and with Jen Garner it in how can this movie be bad? Another friend of mine just showed up, and she is going to get my poster signed. How nice is that! 5:22 p.m. – I think my friend Dean is on the corner passing out passes for the movie. I’ll have to text him. I’m supposed to go see his play this weekend. It’s at the Eclectic Company Theatre (http://www.eclecticcompanytheatre.org). It’s gotten pretty good reviews so I trust I will not be disappointed. 5:43 p.m. – The press is in their pen, so God willing it will be a good premiere. I was hoping that Tina Fey would show up, but she is not on the list. Harrumph! 6:01 p.m. – Things are starting to get going. People are slowing starting to arrive. Nothing major yet. Sidney Bristow, I mean Jen Garner is not here yet… 6:06 p.m. – Dean is here! LOL… He came by to say hi. He’s looks snazzy in his Olive colored shirt!
6:24 p.m. – Oh, it looks like Jen is pulling up. People are going crazy. She gets out of the car and runs right over to the light to cross. She signs a lot. She gets to me and I ask her to sign the Juno poster, which she does. M’Lou gets the Rolling Stone signed and my friend gets the Alias poster signed. Jennifer even notices the poster is turned the wrong way and moves to the other side of the poster to make sure she signs correctly. How cool is that?
6:31 p.m. – Ricky Gervais just arrived. He goes straight to the press line and does not head over. See Erica, what did I tell you about not buying anything just to get signed! 6:41 p.m. – Jen just got finished with the line and is heading back to the other side.
6:48 p.m. – Rob Lowe just showed up and is just starting the press line. 6:59 p.m. – Oh wait, it looks like Ricky Gervais is coming over to cross. I got my DVD’s ready. M’Lou has one for me. 7:05 p.m. – Ricky crossed and is really cool signing down the line. I got him on both DVD’s; I mean one DVD and one “lost” DVD. Yeah, “lost” that’s it!
Overall this was a great premiere. I got pretty much everything I wanted signed, and you can’t ask for a better day than that. Oh, and poor M’Lou still missed out on Jason Bateman! He wasn’t there… Oh well, there’s always next time. We will get Jason Bateman! We will!
