Eva Longoria, Shakira Signing Report by Mike Sametz Today should be a good day. One of my favorite Desperate Housewives, Ms. Eva Longoria is doing a talk show appearance today with none other than Shakira! I have wanted both of them, and have met Eva a couple times now, but never got a picture with her. So, hopefully today will be the day. I have not heard good things about Shakira, but hopefully today she’ll feel generous and come on over. We shall see… 4:03 p.m. – I just arrived and there are about 15 people or so here. A wonderful friend of mine is holding me a spot so that’s cool. 4:15 p.m. – I have my album flat for Shakira, and a small insert for Eva. In fact, if it wasn’t for the pic I probably wouldn’t have come at all. 4:33 p.m. – It’s really nice to see my friend, and fun to hang out. I had this feeling though that I should just stay home today… sigh… I hope that’s not a bad omen… 4:52 p.m. – It’s a really nice night; oh wait... the security is playing torture us with the barricades again. Sigh… why…. Why the drama… 5:02 p.m. – Shakira is really running late, usually the musical guests sound check by now. It’s an outdoor concert, and at a concert like this the artists usually do about 5-6 songs. So, if we don’t get Shakira at sound check then we are in for some No Doubt drama (See that signing report here: http://www.mishmashmagazine.com/tabid/106/itemid/617/No-Doubt-Signing-Report.aspx) Ugh, I hate waiting until the very end of a concert… 5:35 p.m. – So far no one is here… sigh… 6:03 p.m. – It is getting so late... dude, this just feels strange. Oh wait… The gates are opening… Shakira is here. She is waving at us... and motions that she will come over later… great, hopefully, she will come over after soundcheck. Grumble… A lot of people are disappointed. 6:22 p.m. – Eva just arrived. She waved and motioned she will come over after. So, now we wait… 6:45 p.m. – It’s getting a tad chilly… sigh… Oh Shakira just walked by... she is going to the outdoor stage. She waved and walked off. She must be sound checking… God it’s late to sound check… 6:55 p.m. – Shakira is walking back to the building; again she waves, and walks inside. Dude, it would take like 5 minutes to sign some stuff for us… sigh… One guy even has import vinyl that he ordered from Germany. 7:23 p.m. – Oh, the show started taping… I think... yeah… I think they started taping. I guess Shakira isn’t sound checking… That’s so strange... Pink, No Doubt, Blink 182, they all sound checked… but Shakira can’t? Hmmmmmm 7:39 p.m. – Eva is on the couch, so she probably has two segments and then she will be done. 8:14 p.m. – And here she comes. Just as promised, Eva is coming over. I got her on my Desperate Housewives insert, but she is not in the mood to take photos. She really zips through the line and signs for only like 10 minutes, but she did one for everyone here. So, that’s really cool.
8:24 p.m. – Shakira just walked by… again... I think she just wants us to call out for her. I’m having my doubts as to whether she will sign or not. 8:29 p.m. – The outdoor concert crowd is getting warmed up. They have done like three false starts now… 8:39 p.m. – Shakira just took the stage. She did a fast version of "She Wolf"… Oh wait, she is singing the song again. Okay… take two… 8:45 p.m. – Now wait, Shakira left the stage and went inside again… hmmmmm 8:56 p.m. – Okay, now she’s taking the stage again. She did a costume change. 9:03 p.m. – She is singing her second song now. Now sure which one this is. 9:09 p.m. – She’s doing this one again… 9:15 p.m. – The crowd is chanting “otra” for other or more… I’m assuming this from my college Spanish class where I flirted shamelessly with my teacher so I would actually pass when I deserved to fail. Ah, good times… 9:19 p.m. – And Shakira has left the stage. Dude, the crowd is pissed, and is chanting. Who ever is onstage is trying to calm the crowd down, but that’s not working too well. Wow, I’ve never seen anyone only do two songs for an outdoor concert. 9:35 p.m. – Shakira is walking out. We are calling out for her for what seems like the countless time. Sigh... She is standing there and waving. Then she just walks to her car. Dude, it was a total diss. Wow, I’m very shocked. I have to say, she lost a fan here. I can definitely say, I will not make any effort to get her again. Sigh… 5 ½ hours…
