Extract Premiere Signing Report by Mike Sametz Today I am heading out to the famed Arclight theatre also known as the Cinerama Dome for the premiere of the new Mike Judge film, Extract. I really need Mila Kunis on my Sarah Marshall poster (see http://www.mishmashmagazine.com/tabid/106/itemid/517/KRISTEN-BELL-SIGNING-REPORT.aspx) and I need Jason Bateman on my Juno poster. I also have my handy dandy Comic Con poster for Extract with me so I’ll see who I can get on that as well. 2:23 p.m. – It has been such a crappy day. You know the kind of day, when all you really want to do is just sit home and hide under the covers. I’m hoping that this is not a sign of things to come for today… ugh… I feel like I should brace for impact. 2:43 p.m. – Ugh, this is the same set up as a couple other premieres I have been to. I might just take off. They have relegated us to the back of the courtyard… Hmmm…. 2:57 p.m. – I ran into a couple people I know so it looks like I might hang and see what happens. I dunno about this one though… Still none of the stars are huge, so it might be okay. 3:31 p.m. – Oh my God, walking out of the theatre is famed concert photographer and Mishmasher Ms. M’Lou Elkins herself. In all of Los Angeles it’s crazy that I would run into her again. She was apparently watching the “Time Traveler’s Wife.” I do heart me some Rachel McAdams… Sigh…. 3:54 p.m. – I have a guy I know watch my stuff as M’Lou and I get lunch… Mmm Jack in the Box! I wonder: is Jack really in the Box, and if so, is this a large box? Did I also mention it is really sunny out and I have not had any liquids for hours? 4:35 p.m. – M’Lou and I return and oh shit… 4:39 p.m. – Well, they just moved the barricades, and I have been shafted... sigh… apparently 50 people showed up and I have been stuck at the end behind a glass door. Nice guys. 4:49 p.m. – Did I mention this is a shitty day? 5:11 p.m. – M’Lou has decided to stay and “Get Around” with me, which is always fun. I had an extra “Extract” poster so I gave her one so she had something to get signed. 5:32 p.m. – I just learned that Simon Pegg was coming to this, and of course I don’t have my Star Trek poster(s) which I desperately need him on. Yep, great day. How would I have known he was coming you ask? I wouldn’t, because he’s not in the movie! Harrumph! 6:31 p.m. – Oh, and there’s Simon Pegg… He is such a nice guy. He’s signing for everyone and taking pics… I’m happy he’s doing it, I really am, but this kind of kills me. This is why I carry my Desperate Housewives poster with me everywhere I go... you just never know.
6:35 p.m. – Hey that rhymes…. 6:46 p.m. – This is kind of a cool spot though because you can see everyone coming down the red carpet and kind of get prepared. So, that’s kind of cool. It’s not the hurried excitement it usually is. 6:55 p.m. - Jonathon Schaech just arrived and is signing for people. He was in That Thing You Do. I’m just glad he wasn’t in Star Trek, because if so, I would have been pissed! : )
7:01 p.m. – Cheech Marin is the first down the carpet. He doesn’t sign much but gets talked into signing a couple for some fans.
7:13 p.m. - T.J. Miller just got done with the carpet. He was the camera operator in Cloverfield. I got him on my Extract poster.
7:25 p.m. – I just got the ever adorable Beth Grant. She has been in so many movies including “Donnie Darko,” “Too Wong Foo,” and so many more… She’s a fantastic actress and one of the nicest people ever! 7:32 p.m. – And here comes Mila Kunis… She is signing a crapload for all the people on the other end. I heard she can be difficult so it’s nice to see her signing, but she is taking a long time with the professionals. Ugh…
7:46 p.m. – Here she comes, and the door totally just blocked us, well the door and security. Dude, this sucks. She stopped signing right before us. Both M’Lou and I got the shaft… sigh… Again a shitty day… 7:49 p.m. – I just got character actor David Koechner on my extract poster. He was in the 40 Year Old Virgin, and a ton of other movies.
7:55 p.m. – Oh, here comes Jason Bateman… He is really whipping down the line and not signing much. Usually he signs a lot, but not today… he’s almost at my area now, and… he stopped just as he was going to sign M’Lou’s poster. Oh MY GOD! THIS SUCKS! Sigh… I should have just stayed home…
8:01 p.m. – Dustin Milligan from 90210 just came running by and said he was too late to sign but he would sign on the way out. Okay dude… 8:13 p.m. – And now we have KISS’s own Gene Simmons coming. He is with his entire family and my God is his son tall!
He only signed like four autographs, and is about to go inside when I asked him if he would mind signing my Extract poster. He said yes, and took my pen… Which apparently sucks because Gene says to me, “I’m very sorry, but it looks like your pen is not working… oh wait there it goes.” So, I have a half faded Gene Simmons signatures... sigh… that’s the best I have to show for my day.
Poor M’Lou, her getting around has sucked as of late. I knew I should have gone home. At least getting Gene was cool... this is always the crappy end of the stick, when you get shut out… but there will always be more opportunities!
