Inglourious Basterds Premiere Signing Report! by Mike Samets I figured that today would be a long… long… long day. It is the Inglourious Basterds Premiere. So, that means I have Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie with a touch of Quentin Tarantino thrown in for good measure. Yeah, great. Lol… it’s all about getting here early and staking a place on the barricades. Thank God for Sunblock. 1:30 p.m. – Well, I’m here in Hollywood… “This is not Hollywood, like I understood.” Opps sorry I was quoting the Cranberries there. Just a touch of 90’s nostalgia. Today is the Inglorious Basterds premiere and I am expecting chaos. Ah, Chaos, you can’t live with it, and you can’t live without it. 1:43 p.m. – Shockingly, there are quite a few people here already. This is going to be a big one. 1:54 p.m. – Ah brick breaker my old friend. 1:59 p.m. – I had a Dr.’s appointment today, well this morning and I’m feeling a little woozy from giving blood… Mmmmm sugar… I mean blood… I mean… what do I mean? 2:32 p.m. – A large sign with Brad Pitt just drove by. Lol… Ah Hollywood! LOL…
2:49 p.m. – The arrivals are supposed to start around six so hopefully, it will not be too chaotic. I do know a few people around so that’s kind of nice. It helps pass the time. 3:31 p.m. – The guys on both sides are photographers so they are not really after autos so that helps me in a way. I brought my UK mini poster for Tomb Raider, and my Inglourious Basterds mini posters, along with my Mr. and Mrs. Smith mini poster along with my Kill Bill mini poster. Yes, I love mini posters. 3:49 p.m. – It is very bright and I’m starting to sweat in crevices I didn’t think sweated. All for the love of my Angelina Jolie. I have wanted to get this poster signed forever, so hopefully, that’s going to happen. I have never gotten Brad on anything (even though a friend got him on my cast signed Interview with a Vampire poster) so hopefully that will happen as well. I do love my Angelina Jolie. She is just so striking. 4:38 p.m. - There is a kind of readiness in the air. It’s interesting how so many people just lose perspective when they see a celebrity. They go crazy, and do things they would just normally never do in polite society. It’s the same way when there is a giveaway for free T-shirts ironically. It’s all true. 5:34 p.m. – Oh, you can really feel the tension in the air. A couple of friends have joined me now, which is always nice. It makes the time go faster. They have closed off half the street, I thought they were going to close the whole thing down, but I guess not. 6:01 p.m. – There is so much security, and I really don’t blame them. The crowd is huge on the sidewalk here and all around the premiere. 6:10 p.m. – The infamous M’Lou Elkins, editor extraordinaire, has just joined me. She is from the famous www.mishmashmagazine.com and is a very noted concert photographer. I’m going to try and teach her the ways of getting around… heh heh heh…
6:22 p.m. – Eli Roth just showed up. He’s in the movie and also directed Cabin Fever and the Hostel films. He’s very over the top, but still very nice to sign for everyone. He signs a lot, and I got him on my poster, and he said something like, “A Nice shot of Brad.” Anyway, he seemed very cool.
6:31 p.m. – B.J. Novak arrived. He runs over for a bit, but doesn’t get anywhere near me. That kind of sucks cause I am really close to being directly across from the red carpet. Oh well… 6:41 p.m. - Diane Kruger just got here. She looks really beautiful. She signs a lot. You probably know her best from the National Treasure movies. She signs all down the front of the barricades and spends quite a bit of time with the fans. I got her on my Inglorious Basterds poster, but I have to wonder, what is it about a dark poster that makes people with a blue or black pen want to sign in the black areas. My God there is a huge area of white on the top. Sign there for God sakes! Harrumph.
6:49 p.m. – Melanie Laurent just arrived and is crossing over to sign. 6:53 p.m. – Oh My GOD! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just got here. Holy shit. She looks f’n gorgeous. She has like a black leather dress on… Dying! They come out of their car, and there is a Starline tour bus sitting there. They walk over to the bus, and start saying hi to people on the bus. Damn… they are walking to the far end of the barricade. People are going crazy for them.
6:59 p.m. – Brad and Angelina are coming this way. Angelina has a pen, but Brad really is not signing. I’m trying to dig for a pen but can’t. My kingdom for a pen. Well, not my kingdom, but still! Lol… Angelina is walking this way, and I hold up my tomb Raider poster for her. She is walking right over to me. Okay this is why I need Erica cause now I have lost conscious thought. I really don’t remember anything at this point, Angelina is in front of me, my poster is signed and I’m done.
7:03 p.m. – Brad is right behind her, and I’m trying to get him on my poster for Inglourious Basterds but he doesn’t have a pen and really doesn’t seem to be signing much. The guy next to me has a pen and gets him on a hat… I have no comment. I’m trying to hold out the poster for him to see, but security just pushed it down. Dude! They are both on the other side now. Hopefully, they will come back again like Johnny Depp did that one time. 7:14 p.m. – They are heading into the premiere press line now… man… at least I got Angie! I still missed Brad! 7:16 p.m. – Quentin just arrived. He is running over but not really signing much. Again he doesn’t even get near my section. Dammit! Shut out by Quentin twice! They might come back over after the press line… 7:33 p.m. – Alas, they are done, wave at the crowd and head out. Oh well… At least I got Angie. And I got her on the poster I really wanted her on, and it’s a good one. Still as far as premieres go this one was kinda… eh… Still any Angelina sighting is a good one! And in black leather no less!
