San Diego Comic-Con - Day 3 - 7.25.09 by Mike Sametz Saturday is always seemingly the busiest day of Comic Con. Although I think it might be hard to beat yesterday and the madness that ensued. There are lots of signings I want to get into today, and a lot of them are really though, so hopefully it will be as good of a day today. At least I didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn… oh wait… 6:45 a.m. – I’m in the car and off to Comic Con. They are giving out wristbands for the Zombieland signing this morning and I really want to get into it. 7:44 a.m. – They are letting everyone inside the convention center to line up again to get on the convention floor. I’m heading up to the Sails Pavilion. 8:22 a.m. – No one can seem to tell me where the wristband line up is at. I’m calling Erica because she seems to know all. 8:34 a.m. – She says it’s by the main line, but I can’t find it. They moved it today. Grrrr… 9:03 a.m. – I’m back at the Sail’s Pavilion and I’m talking to the main lady, and she said all the wristbands are gone… man, that sucks. 9:32 a.m. - I just met up with Erica. I’m going to try and get that Buffy bag at Dark Horse… 9:45 a.m. – No Buffy bags yet. Man, this sucks today. 10:08 a.m. – I just ran into the lady we met yesterday who was giving out the wristbands. She asked where I was this morning, and I was like, I couldn’t find the line! She actually had a wristband extra that was broken for the Zombieland signing, and gave it to me. Yay, now I have to find tape! LOL… 11:02 a.m. – I’m hovering in line for the Eastwick signing. It’s a new show on ABC and they are doing a signing at the WB booth. These can be tricky and hard to get into. So… on with the unofficial waiting. Erica is waiting for the Chuck line which is right before, and here sister Linda is with me for Eastwick. 11:22 a.m. – Erica got into the Chuck signing! Good for her! 12:01 p.m. – Linda and I just got into the Eastwick signing. YAY, I really wanted to get this one, and now I am in the “official” line! Whoo hoo! 12:29 p.m. – The cast of Chuck is playing rock band and they are showing it on the monitors. Too funny.
12:45 p.m. – Okay, we just got through with the Eastwick signing. The cast was very cool. Rebecca Romijn was super cool, and I got a nice picture with her. Yay, god she’s gorgeous in person.
12:48 p.m. – just ran into Erica, she convinced me to run around the booth to try and get into the Vampire Diaries line. Here we go. 12:54 p.m. – We ran around the booth, and are the last two people in the Vampire Diaries line. Too cool. I didn’t think we had a stones throw in hell of getting into this one. I’m really glad because I wanted to meet Kevin Williamson who wrote Scream and Scream 2. 1:35 p.m. – We made it right under the gun for the Vampire Diaries signing. Ian Somerhalder was nice, but dude lay off the makeup. I talked to Kevin Williamson for a second and asked him if there was going to be a Scream 4 and he told me that yes, there will and Courtney and David are signed up. Plus, there will be a trilogy of films centered on Courtney Cox’s character. He said Neve Campbell had some kind of block but they are trying to get her involved. Dude, that rocks!
1:55 p.m. – Erica and I are heading back to Dark Horse to see about the Buffy bags… none yet… grrrrr… I did convince Erica to stand in front of the R2D2 and do a Princess Lea pose… heh heh heh… it’s funny… Only at comic con… 2:22 p.m. – Erica’s sister Fifi got into the True Blood signing, which was madness… simply madness… But she took my Anna Paquin True Blood insert and got it signed for me. YAY! Thanks Fifi! (I tried to get her a Rebecca Romijn but they would only allow one autograph per person even though Rebecca clearly did not care) 2:45 p.m. – I just got some food and lined up for Zombieland. I need to get into this signing quick and run down to the V signing, cause I’m expecting chaos for that one. The entire cast will be there… sigh… Oh, and I found tape for my wristband! YAY! 4:01 p.m. – Okay Zombieland has started. I’m excited about this one, the preview looks kick ass! 4:15 p.m. – Just got out of Zombieland. Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and the director Ruben Fleischer were there. Everyone was very cool. Woody seemed a little standoffish at first but really warmed up to people. The only downside was that they had the one sheets. Ugh... I wish it was a mini poster. Ah well… all good.
4:27 p.m. – Just got to the WB booth. I called Erica and told her to get there. They have a line for V already, but the line is mixed with people for V and for Fringe which is first. Ugh… 4:39 p.m. – The people at the booth are actually being really cool. Erica slipped in behind me and security said we could stay here and police the line so no one cuts. This is a decent unofficial line! 5:22 p.m. – Okay, they just got the official line situated. Whoo hoo we made it. Man, I’m so excited! I really was so blessed at this comic con because I got pretty much everything I wanted to and more. Whoo hoo! 6:15 p.m. – Just got through with the V line. Elizabeth Mitchell was super nice as were the rest of the cast. I saw the pilot and think there’s so much potential for this show. By the end I really wanted to see what was going to happen, so I hope it takes off.
6:30 p.m. – Just met up with Scott, he wanted a picture with the house elf from Harry Potter! LOL… We’re going to grab some food, and head over to the Weeds panel at 8:00 p.m. Erica is going to the other True Blood party. LOL…
7:43 p.m. – Erica just called and told me to come by and get some True Blood swag before the Weeds panel. So, of course We do. LOL… 8:10 p.m. – Just got into the Weeds Panel. It’s about ¾ full. Not bad for an evening panel. I love this show. Jenji Kohan (the creator of Weeds), Hunter Parrish, and Justin Kirk are all here representing the show. 9:00 p.m. – The Panel just ended. I want to get Jenji Kohan on my Weeds insert. She is so nice. She was only allowed to sign for a couple of us. Security was trying to stop her, and she said, “No, I have to sign for them.” I thought that was very classy.
This was another long, but nice day. I am so blessed I got pretty much everything I wanted. So, thank God, the universe and knock on wood for next year! Whoo hoo!
