Congregation of the Forgotten Saints "Art Core" by Nalea J. Ko Fans of metal art swarmed onto Melrose Avenue for an unconventional art exhibit, but it was not the paintings of skulls and bloody limbs that had everyone buzzing. MOCA, Los Angeles Marlene Dumas: Measuring Your Own Grave June 22-Sept 22, 2008 Blurry darkness. Many, many scenes of death done in shades of grey. Prepubescent girls in scanty clothing with blobs for feet and eyes that cry without tears. If paintings represent an artist's personality, Marlene Dumas is not a happy camper. The exhibit, the Dutch artist's first in America, is fittingly titled “Measuring Your Own Grave” and will be housed at MOCA until September 22. It will then travel to MOMA in December. The exhibit seems to be a meditation on race, sex, and age, all under an umbrella theme of death and demise.
