Aliens: Colonial Marines Soon to Arrive

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a game that as the years went on was pushed back again and again, til you just thought it would never see the light of day. The game was in development by Check Six Games in 2001 and was supposed to be released for the PS2 back then, but shortly after that it was scraped.

As a long time fan of the Sigourney Weaver movies, I was excited when I heard that on December 11 2006 Sega had purchased the electronic rights to the Alien franchise from 20th Century Fox, and was even more excited when Gearbox Software announced on December 15 they would be working with Sega to finally get this game to hit shelves around the world. But that was back in 2006, and as the years went on it seemed that the game just wasn’t meant to be. Every few months or so it would get a release date, then it would quickly be pushed back. After a few years of the same thing, I started to believe that it would be canceled just like it had before, and I would never be able to get my hands on it.

But to the surprise of many, myself included, E3 recently released a teaser trailer that gave me hope this game would indeed see the light of day. With another release date set for Spring 2012, and this new trailer, I finally believe that Aliens: Colonial Marines will make it out of production and into the awaiting hands of eager gamers. Gearbox seems to have a knack for finding titles that everyone thought were long gone and finishing projects we thought were just a thing of the past. A perfect example is Duke Nukem Forever, a game that has been in development for over 10 years and is set to finally release this June. There is one thing you have to ask yourself though: these games have gone through so many phases, will the long awaited release be worth it?

But on the other hand, no matter if the game lives up the hype or not, or up to your standards of what you think the game should be, you have to respect a company like Gearbox who took the time to dig through the trash of so many others, and get a game out to the fans that they believe deserve it. On behalf of all gamers out there, I thank you Gearbox for picking up these titles that others have given up on.
