Prince William Arrives at the BAFTA Brits To Watch Party at Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles
Prince William and Kate made a stop at the BAFTA “Brits To Watch” event Saturday, July 9th at Belasco Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent an evening with 42 up-and-coming Britons in the film, television and video-game industries and a slew of Hollywood’s finest celebs, including the likes of Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, Barbara Streisand, Jennifer Lopez, and Jack Black.
The black-tie gala was organized by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts as a way to elevate the profiles of the 42 British up-and-comers by having them hobnob with the Hollywood elite. Prince William was elected the 5th president of BAFTA in February 2010. (BAFTA’s first president was William’s grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.)
William opened the event with a speech, then he and Kate met with “The 42″ in a private reception room, after which everyone partied down… until around 11:45pm.
“When American and British talent get together, magic happens,” the prince said. “Let’s continue the winning formula. Catherine and I have been hugely looking forward to tonight’s event.”
Tables were $25,000 a pop and 2 “Brits to Watch” were seated at each table. All profits go towards BAFTA scholarships.
On our way to the event, we passed by the British Consul-General’s house in Hancock Park, where William and Kate are staying during their Los Angeles trip, and people were camped outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the royal couple. We passed by again hours later and news vans and people were still positioned across the street.
