MAYhem at The Hive Gallery! May 1, 2010 – May 29, 2010Art enthusiasts flocked to opening night of the MAYhem show at the Hive Gallery in Los Angeles. Boasting a collection of works from over 70 group and 26 resident artists and featuring live music performances, live painting, and burlesque performances by Feminine Oddities (www.feminineoddities.com), regardless of your level of artistic knowledge this exhibition has a little something for everyone. MAYhem will run from May 1 – May 29, 2010. Featured artisits include Brandon Sopinsky, Vincent Seritella, Macsorro (Tall Wall Artist), Bleys Lieuallen (Small Wall Artist) and LD Grant (Installation Artist). MAYhem includes art spanning from sculpture to artistic lamps where great talent and mind blowing expressionism are represented. Resident artist Annie Terrazzo’s exhibit “Detritus” particularly stands out. By using a medium that is out of the ordinary – Trash, Terrazzo has created a collection of works that forces you to look at art in a different way. Annie creates striking “trash portraitures” by recycling old newspaper clippings from all around the world in her collection of illustrations and paintings entitled, “Detritus”. Detritus- the remains of something that has been destroyed or broken up.

The Hive Gallery & Studios features emerging artists from around the country. It is unique in that it holds 12 working artists, 2 full gallery rooms, a featured artist space, an artist made item store, live painting wall, and 2 performance stages. The Hive Gallery has a new opening the first saturday of every month and participates in the Los Angeles dowtown Gallery row art walk every second Thursday of each month.
