Sabbath Assembly have decided to delve into the truly bizarre with their new full-length album titled Restored To One. Every song performed is a cover of hymnal music from a 1960′s cult called The Process Church Of The Final Judgment.
Originally a splinter group of Scientology, but declared to be “suppressive persons” by L. Ron Hubbard, The Process Church was effectively shunned by what is arguably the most controversial pseudo-religion on the planet. I suppose their habit of worshiping both Christ and Satan in the same breath had something to do with that. But then again, I could be wrong.
For Sabbath Assembly to take on this subject matter in the form of a new album has more balls than a Rocky Mountain Oyster processing plant. And the fact that they’re genuinely good musicians with a hauntingly beautiful voice at the helm does nothing to hurt them either. Their vocalist, Jex Thoth, will damn near put shivers up and down your spine with her sweet sounding delivery of lyrics that extol the virtues of Satan, and the whole atmosphere of their music is such that you’ll feel like the sirens are calling your ship toward the rocks. Truly interesting stuff, indeed.
Restored to One is out June 22nd. Grab the MP3 download of their song “We Give Our Lives” above.
