Konami has announced the release date for the new Castlevania: Harmony Of Despair. Coming down the line as part of Microsoft’s “Summer of Arcade,” the new game will be one of five featured titles being released on the Live Marketplace in the near future.

In an attempt to preserve the franchise’s old school roots while simultaneously innovating, Konami have created the game with detailed 2D graphics, but also upped the ante with 6-player simultaneous co-op.

Right from launch, players will be able to fill the shoes of some of their favorite vampire hunters culled from throughout the history of the franchise, and to keep things interesting, there are also plans for downloadable content in the near future that will add new characters and levels to the mix.

The new game is slated for an exclusive release on Xbox Live Arcade, and is expected to be available for 1200 MS points on August 4th.
