For a while, cowboys were the source of fascination for all and Clint Eastwood was the most popular man around. Then, interest in pirates was sparked by thePirates of the Caribbean franchise and everybody on earth began sporting skull-covered scarves and became obsessed with Johnny Depp. The man can act and has good bone structure, but come on people.
Today, the age of the vampire is upon us.The Twilight Saga is to blame this time and as a result, young people are more familiar with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner than they are with Gandhi and Jane Goodall. Team Edward vs. Team Jacob is the biggest controversy since the Cold War, and pale sparkly skin is considered sexy.
And now, HBO’s hit TV series True Blood has become so popular that DVD sales of its first season has outsold DVD sales of The Soprano’s first season. The critically-acclaimed series follows the plight of vampires and their interaction with humans in a fictional Louisiana town. Produced by Alan Ball, the show has sold 1.3 million copies, which is 37 percent more than sales of The Sopranos.
Not only has the series outsold The Sopranos, the show is now the most watched series on HBO since the mobsters left TV. The second season premiere of True Blood was watched by 3.7 million people, making it the most viewed television program on the network. The show has even outsold the first season of HBO’s Sex and the City on DVD. Watch out Sarah Jessica Parker.
Like the Twilight Saga, the series has gained a massive following. However, unlike the film and literature franchise, True Blood has been commended by both viewers and critics alike. The show has won multiple awards, including an Emmy and a Golden Globe, and received countless other nominations. Pretty good for a show that can almost be classified as vampire porn.
