I just saw Sex and the City 2 and they had a funny 80′s flashback. What’s with all these movies lately that tie in the 80′s?

Olivia, 80′s nostalgia is what carried Gen Xers through a drab post-millennium decade. Once we realized how lame the 90′s were, it was already 2000. Most of us who lived through the 80′s miss the happy, neon ridiculousness of it all.

You’re right. A lot of 80′s flashbacks are thrown into films for fun. Not only was it recently on Sex and the City 2, but Hot Tub Time Machine. The characters were sucked back in time to 1986, and the filmmakers recreated a campy ski resort from the 80′s, complete with feather-haired ski patrol bullies, ski bunnies in legwarmers and a Poison concert thrown in for good measure.

Music and Lyrics, starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, did an excellent job making fun of the 80′s while still celebrating it. Pop Goes My Heart was the catchy 80′s theme song and became an instant hit on iTunes.

And what film started this 80′s surge now seen in countless movies? The Wedding Singer, an American classic.
