So you’ve fallen victim to the pink slip, you can’t afford a hair cut, your wife can’t tell a good joke. If you said ‘check’ after all three of these things, then you know what you need – a really good whore without the chance of contracting syphillis. (Ointment equals money).
Well, Mr. Sad Face, meet Crashbar Improv. She’s cheap and she’s got a heart of gold.
To explain why it’s okay to let life drive you into her forbidden arms is improv group TAB, the host of the weekly Thursday night show:
PL: What is Crashbar?
TAB: The best comedic bang for your buck in LA. Run by the improv group TAB (Lilan Bowden, Will Doughty, Casey Feigh, Jacob Womack and Diana Wright), Crashbar Improv hosts five talented improv teams and one stand up comic every Thursday night at 8pm for only $5. The show is followed by a free improv jam at 10:15pm where anyone can get on stage and play!
PL: Why is it named Crashbar?
TAB: Crashbar started as a fundraiser for the iO West bar staff after an SUV crashed through their front bar area (in broad daylight!) shutting the entire theater down in the summer of 2008. Once IO was back up and running we decided the shows were just too good to close up shop. So we named it Crashbar Improv to remind ourselves where the show came from and because we all thought it sounded cool.
PL: What’s the funniest show you’ve had come through so far?
TAB: The great thing about our show, and improv in general, is that you never know what you’re going to see from one minute to the next. We try to schedule groups with different styles that come from different improv backgrounds in the same show to mix things up and keep the audience on their toes. We’re also very proud of the level of comedians we’ve had perform and the opportunity to introduce improv crowds to some of the best up and coming comics in the country. As for favorite shows, I would guess we all have different ones. To be honest, I can’t think of a single show we’ve had where I didn’t walk away laughing and impressed!
PL: Who’s usually the drunkest person at Crashbar?
TAB: Probably us and the various other performers, after we perform of course. Obviously improv jams at the end of the night have been known to get a little “loose.”
PL: Final thoughts?
TAB: I would invite anyone and everyone to come by at 8pm on a Thursday night and check us out. There are so many amazing improvisers in LA and Crashbar is lucky to host some of these fine people on Thursdays. We stand by our guarantee that you will laugh a lot every time you come. It’s the best $5 you’ll spend all week, unless you’re able to score one of those Mr. T wrestling action figures on ebay for real cheap.
