Okay, so it’s now 2009 and I have tried several times to “Get Around” (as everyone here at MishMash calls it) only to be rejected on all occasions. All of them by Anne Hathaway, lol, but still I press on (although Ms. Hathaway will not be receiving my vote for the SAG awards thank you very much! Go Angelina!). Today is the premiere of Big Love, the HBO series about Mormons starring Mr. Bill Paxton. Now, I hate Bill Paxton, I have never liked him, he drives me crazy. With that said, I need Amanda Seyfried on my Mean Girls poster, and would love Chloë Sevigny on my Last Days of Disco poster. So, I guess we’ll see what happens. Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring you the first Mike Gets Around of 2009!
4:00 p.m. – I’m here at the Arclight theatre in Hollywood. I’ve never done a premiere here, so this is a new experience. There is a makeshift pen set up for people to stand in and this is where I take my place along the railing. So far there are about 5 people here before me.
4:13 p.m. – I was just told arrivals start at 7:00 p.m. and the premiere at
8:00 p.m. I wonder if I have time to get food? Yes, that was sarcasm.
4:19 p.m. – Mmmm Jack in the Box. I love their chicken sandwiches! I hate being in Hollywood. I swear the guy next to me is a White Supremacist. There is also a group of what looks like homeless kids in the back. I’m deciding if I should share my curly fries with them in case they didn’t have any food of their own.
4:22 p.m. – Okay, but what if the kids are not homeless, I can’t really go up to someone and ask… are you homeless, would you like some fries, after all they are sitting in the Jack in the Box just like me. Hmmmmmmmmmmm….
4:25 p.m. – Fuck it, I’m eating the fries.
4:44 p.m. – I’m debating about heading over to the Amoeba and chilling there for a second, but then I might be encouraged to spend money, and since I just got laid off, it might not be the best time. Sigh… I love 2009, don’t get me started on that.
4:49 p.m. – Okay, I have my spot on the barricades. And I have my new Blackberry, which is nice because it has an MP3 player built in, and Brickbreaker, the most addicting game known to man.
5:01 p.m. – I take that back, Tetris is probably the most addicting game, but still you get the idea.
5:22 p.m. – I think I’m enjoying listening to the Lady Gaga too much because people are starting to stare. DOH!
5:39 p.m. – It’s probably too early to do this, but I figure I should get my stuff organized. I brought my Mean Girls poster that has already been signed by Lindsey and Tina Fey. Check out what Tina Fey wrote. I love her!
5:44 p.m. – I also have a Last Days of Disco poster for Chloë Sevigny. I have had this poster since 1998 which is when I first fell in love with Kate Beckinsale. Ah… Kate Beckinsale….. I thought it would be cool to get it signed; the film still isn’t on DVD yet, which sucks. The movie was directed by Whit Stillman who, for those of you who do not know, his films are very dialogue oriented to say the least. Disco was his last film, although I hear he is working on a new movie.
6:02 p.m. – Oh, Duffy is on the MP3 player now. I tried to get Erica to come to this with me, but she has to work. Oh, the employed! LOL…
6:12 p.m. – Others expected to attend tonight are Harry Dean Stanton, Tom Hanks, Tina Majorino (for those Veronica Mars fans out there, yes Lilly Kane and Mac together!), Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin, Grace Zabriskie, and more…
6:45 p.m. – It’s starting to get going. People are scuttling about. We are at the end of the red carpet, so after all the press interviews, the stars can come over.
7:15 p.m. – Here it comes… The pen is full now, almost brimming over with collectors and professionals alike. Hopefully, it won’t be too insane…
7:18 p.m. – Lady Gaga is still echoing through my head. I keep hearing, “Just Dance, Gonna be Okay, Dada doot n doot n just dance” I’m not sure if that is an exact quote, but you get the idea.
7:22 p.m. – Grace Zabriskie is done with her interviews; she was Laura Palmer’s mother on Twin Peaks. She is being called over and stares at everyone but just walks inside.
7:25 p.m. – Oh, Grace came over now. She is very gracious and signs and takes some photos. I got her on my Big Love insert. God love Entertainment Weekly inserts!
7:27 p.m. – Harry Dean Stanton is being called over. He is a legend, if you don’t know who he is check him out on IMDB. I brought my Pretty in Pink insert for him. Unfortunately, he is standing in one place and not moving along the line at all. Thankfully, one of the other collector’s I know took my insert and got it signed for me. Very cool.
7:33 p.m. – There is Tina Majorino… Now, I love Veronica Mars, and I almost took my signed cast shot out of the frame to get her on it, but I didn’t. I should have… Doh! She is so sweet, and I got a pic with her. I also asked her if she heard anything about the Veronica Mars movie. She paused, and said, “No! No, I haven’t!” As if she was really disappointed.
7:35 p.m. – Ginnifer Goodwin is coming over. She was in Mona Lisa Smile and the upcoming He’s Just Not That into You. She looks adorable, but is really going fast. I got her on my Big Love program. A few other Big Love cast members are signing, and I got them, but I don’t know their names, sorry.
7:43 p.m. – Chloe is done with her interviews, and people are calling her over. She is gracious, not super friendly, but very polite. She signed my Last Days of Disco poster which is super cool. So funny, I totally forgot I had this!
7:49 p.m. – Jeanne Tripplehorne is signing some things. She starts at the front and then moved to the side, completely missing me and a bunch of other people. I missed her. Oh well.
7:52 p.m. – Okay, Amanda is done now, and she’s coming over. She is so small! I have my poster ready. It’s actually an import poster from the UK. HEH… She is signing in the front, and I’m holding up my poster for her. She sees it, but her publicist is dragging her away. DUDE! This sucks, she only signed like 10 things! I am beyond bummed.
7:57 p.m. – Tom Hanks is done with his interviews now…. I can’t believe I didn’t get Amanda. Sigh… Oh, Hanks is coming over. I brought my The Burb’s DVD for him. I know I know not exactly a classic, but a classic in my book! I love Joe Dante!
8:02 p.m. – Hanks is signing up a storm and even though I’m being crushed by all these people, (literally it’s like a feeding frenzy) I get him on the DVD! Very cool! Not why I came, but still my grandma will be impressed!
8:10 p.m. – Bill Paxton is done with his interviews now. People are calling him over, but he just waves and ditches everyone. Again, I am not a fan, but it would have been nice to complete my cast signed insert.
8:22 p.m. – Okay, that’s it… I didn’t get Amanda, but I did get a lot of others. I’m going to hang around until the end to see if I can get her on the way out.
8:33 p.m. – Oh, Tom Hanks is leaving. He is signing on the way out too. Damn, I heard he is very tough, but he is signing a lot.
8:49 p.m. – I get to talking with some of the guys, and get the address for the after party. I’m debating about going over there.
9:01 p.m. – I’m still at the theatre. I mean, I could try here, but there is still a large barricade… ugh…
9:22 p.m. – Okay, I’m heading over to the after party. It’s about 2 blocks away. Why now, I think I would have a better chance there then here.
9:34 p.m. – Well, there are about three other people here looking for autos. It’s a cool club with snowflakes projected on the front.
9:39 p.m. – Okay, well there are about 13 collectors here… sigh…
9:40 p.m. – I can not get Lady Gaga out of my head… Go Gaga Go!
9:44 p.m. – People are starting to arrive. Ginnifer, Jeanne, Tina, no Amanda yet.
9:46 p.m. – Chloe is here. I got her again on my Big Love insert. Why not right?
9:52 p.m. – Oh, there’s Amanda. People are swarming her and there is no way I can get to her. Shit. I missed her again. Sigh.
9:53 p.m. – I notice a couple people talking to her just at the entrance. Amanda is taking pics with them, and no one is noticing. I run over and just as she is done, I hold my poster up, and ask her to sign it, and she does! Whoo Hoo! Dude, that was a lot of work! Now, I am only missing two of the Mean Girls! If anyone knows the location of Lacey Chabert let me know! LOL…
9:55 p.m. – Bill Paxton arrives. He is not being very nice, and he only signed a few things, and ran inside. Again, not a fan…
10:03 p.m. – I’m tired, hungry but happy, because even though today was a six hour odyssey, I did get what I wanted. Sigh… 6 hours… It was fun though and what more can you ask for right? And don’t forget, “Just Dance, Gonna be okay, dada doot n doot n just dance!”
