Lloyd Ahlquist- 10 Questions

Posted on December 12th, 2008 By Under: Comedy Tags: ,

Lloyd Ahlquist is the General Manager and Artsitic Director of M.i.’s Westside Comedy Theater and the former GM of the Westside Eclectic Theate.

1. What is the funniest thing you have ever seen?

I’d have to narrow it down to the funniest thing I’ve seen lately which was a video of 7 pre-teen girls crying hysterically because of the latest American Idol results.  It was a relatively priceless moment.

2. Do you have any superstitious rituals that you follow prior to performing?

I’m one of the founders of the improv group, Mission IMPROVable.  We started an improv touring company and have performed all over the country since 1999.  We’ve done a high energy shake down before every show ever done.  Pretty much just shaking out hands and arms while counting down from 16 really fast.  The guys touring now still do it and it brings us luck on the road.

3. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?

I farted in the middle of a gymnastics routine during the state championships meet.  Not cool.  But looking back, it’s pretty funny.

4. What inspired you to do comedy?

First, “In Living Color”.  After that, I dislocated my knee and broke my ankle at the same time my second year in college.  I couldn’t do gymnastics for 6 months so I auditioned for this improv group in college and got in.

5. What is your perfect day like?

I keep pretty busy lately.  I think my perfect day would be pretty boring.  Wake early but not be tired.  Go surfing in the morning and have absolutely no plans after that pantomime.

6. What is your favorite place to perform?

I love the stage and space at the Westside Eclectic.  It’s really simple and intimate and has a great underground feel.  There’s a really cool improv theater down in Orlando as well called SAK Comedy Lab.  It’s a great space and what makes it exceptional is that they have a great technical system.  If you pantomime a  gun on stage, the guy in the sound booth has your gun sound fx and a light flash cued up and ready to go before you can pull the make-pretend trigger.  Pretty awesome.

7. Who would you most like to perform with and why?

I’ve always wanted to do a show with TJ Jagadowski from Chicago.  He’s a great guy I think doing an improv set with him would be pretty great.  Also, Rambo.

8. What is your favorite art besides comedy?

Rap

9. What is your creative process like?

Coffee, procrastination, pacing, talking to myself.  Repeat, repeat, repeat.

10. Would you rather live in a world without boobs or without sauce?

Sauce.  Only a boob would think otherwise.
